ABOUT US

Taught by masters of the art, Torrance Kendo Dojo reveals a path of physical and mental discipline through Kendo.

Since 1974, Torrance Kendo Dojo has fostered ‘KENYU—friendship through Kendo—through dedicated practice. We have a strong history of producing national champions, and most recently, eight of our members represented Team USA in the 2024 World Kendo Championships, with three of our Sensei coaching the national teams. Both the men’s and women’s teams achieved bronze medals out of 60+ countries. In addition, for the past three years, Torrance Kendo Dojo students have earned opportunities to compete internationally in Japan. Join our dojo to experience our commitment to excellence.

The practice of Kendo brings numerous benefits that go beyond physical health and fitness.

Members of Torrance Kendo Dojo join for a variety of reasons. Some seek a physical challenge, a way to move and grow stronger. Others may have a competitive spirit and search for an outlet. Many are looking for a path to personal development, or a challenge. We’ve seen parents wanting to instill discipline in their children, families eager to share a meaningful activity, and individuals drawn to the rich culture of Kendo.

At Torrance Kendo Dojo, we believe Kendo offers a path for anyone to grow, no matter their starting point. Kendo is about cultivating mental strength, focus, and perseverance. Our goal is to provide a place where effort and dedication matter more than natural talent. It’s about finding a sense of purpose, building confidence, and connecting with a community that values hard work and mutual respect.
